It might come as a surprise to some, but the north side of Dublin is home to some of the leafiest suburbs in our fair city. One such haven in Suburbia is Clontarf.
Last night saw the great and the good descend on Kilkenny for the launch of Sullivan’s Brewing Company, the brand behind the renaissance of brewing in the city. The new Sullivan’s Taproom, a visitor centre and microbrewery on John Street, was the backdrop for the celebration, which included the premiere of Maltings Red Ale, the first brew.
The launch, hosted by Sullivan’s founder Paul Smithwick, was a lively yet relaxed affair.
Social media star James Kavanagh made the trip down from Dublin to attend, as did Gay Byrne and Kathleen Watkins.
Businessman Patrick White attended with his son Jamie White, and caught up with retired Judge Peter Smithwick. Former Tánaiste Dick Spring delivered an eloquent speech and led the official toast. Lawson Mpame and his girlfriend Jade Coyle brought style to the occasion and were in awe of the stunning mural created by artist Gavin Beatty who was also in attendance.
Naoise Nunn, who has just been appointed chair of Kilkenny Tourism Board, was looking forward to revealing upcoming plans to promote the city. Known far and wide as a cultural epicentre for craft and design, Kilkenny is a true brewing city and Sullivan’s CEO Alan Quane noted that the company is committed to reviving a once great brewery and the ancient craft of independent artisan brewing.
Bruce Monsur was looking forward to his upcoming Craft Beer Festival at the RDS and was delighted to catch up with Sullivan’s master brewer Ian Hamilton. To compliment the beer drinking there was homemade pizzas by James Rigby, cooked on site in the specially constructed wood fired oven.
